How MTC practice works
Each question appears for 6 seconds. Type the answer or tap the number pad, then press Enter or ✓; if time runs out first, whatever you've typed is taken as your answer. There's a 3-second pause before the next question, and your score and the facts you missed appear at the end.
If you miss some, practise them in practice, then try the check again. The trickiest tables are usually the 7, 8 and 12 times tables.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Multiplication Tables Check?
A short online check that children in Year 4 in England take in June. It has 25 multiplication questions from the 2 to 12 times tables, with 6 seconds to answer each.
Is there a pass mark for the MTC?
No. There's no pass mark; schools use the results to see which children need more help with their times tables. Many children aim for 25 out of 25.
Which times tables come up most in the MTC?
Questions come from the 2 to 12 times tables, with more from the harder tables: 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12.
Is this the official MTC?
No. It's a free practice version that works the same way, so the real check feels familiar.
